Fan cleaning?
Question:I have a box fan that has a lot of dust on it. i can take the front cover off but there is still the back cover where the motor is. what is the best way to clean the back cover
Answers:
Have you tried the canned air that you use to spray the dust off of a computer keyboard? I use them for so many things in my house.
You should be able to take both sides off w/out disturbing the fan at all. Then just hose down. Also for fan blades wipe w/ vinegar on a clean rag.
make sure it is unplugged and get a lightly damp rag and wipe the dust off then let it dry for abit before you plug it back up.
a duster
Try one of those magnetic dusters that should do the trick don't put anything wet near your motor. Just rub it acros the fan motor and it should come right off.
Try using a vaccuum attatchment for the motor
You should be able to take off the back cover just like you took off the front cover. Also, while you've got it open I recommend you take off the fan blades to clean them and grease the little thing they sit on. Just a little 3 in 1 oil, WD40 or something like that.
I recently fixed my fan at work by rubbing some chapstick on the spinning thing. It had gotten to the point that it would barely spin and made all sorts of noise.
I don't know if you have access to an air compressor or not, but I think a good way would be to blow it out with air. You can even purchase air in a can that you can use to blow clean electronics and stuff, but it runs out fast.
If you have an air compressior I'd use that but if you don't I'd use a can of air that you use to clean your computer with.
