How do I remove gum off of the seat in my car?

Question:I sat in gum at a bar and didn't notice. Then I sat in the car. I got the gum off of my jeans, but I dont' know how to get it out of the car seat without ruining the material.

Answers:
try a product called goo-gone...

I've had similar things happen to me before...

It usually works really well. You can get it most places they sell regular cleaners, or at a hardware store...

Try rubbing alcohol, it would dry out the gum and make it easier to remove.
any time you're in a "sticky situation" with chewing gum, the best way to get it off is to make it unsticky. any oil based material will do this (like peanut butter, baby oil, lotion, cooking oil), but since it's on your car seat, that can be a little tricky!

first, harden the gum with some ice. the colder and harder you can get it, the better chance you have of getting it off.

then, put a thin cloth over a butter knife and scrape it off your carseat.

this should do the trick, but if it's still stuck, then you're going to have to result to using a little grease. i think peanut butter would be the least harmful and you should be able to wash it up with some warm water and a little laundry soap. then, just soak up the water with a towel or paper towel.

good luck!
set some newspaper over the gum and run a hot iron over it. it should come right off. done it before with clothes so i know it works. the gum ends up sticking to the newspaper :)
That's a tough one! Try an ice cube...freeze the gum and try to pull it off...or there is a product called Oops! that works really well on lots of things...try that! Good luck!!
rub ice on it
Are they leather seats? This is common among families with smaller children. A parent's worse nightmare, is looking over to see their child sleeping on the car's leather seats or the leather sofa and there lying beside their head, a big old wad of gum!

One of the easiest ways to remove gum is to freeze it and then just pick it off. To do this without getting the leather wet and leaving a water spot, there are a few options you can.

Two excellent methods include freezing a metal spoon and then placing it directly onto the gum or using a can of pressurized air dust remover (comes in a can at Office Depot, or Staples, or even Wal-Mart), which comes out icy cold. You may have to break the gum apart in several pieces but generally, it will come off.

Another option is to do the very opposite. Using a hairdryer on low heat, the gum will become soft which can then be rolled up into a ball and removed.

A small amount of lighter fluid or Naphtha on a Q-tip will help soften the gum so it can be removed easily but be very careful not to touch the Q-tip to the leather or it could damage the color, sheen, or finish.

De-solv-it, which can be purchased at most hardware stores will also work. When using these solutions be sure you wipe the leather after the gum is removed with a clean, damp cloth, and then dry and polish.

If all else fails, professionals recommend you try breaking the gum into smaller pieces, remove the debris, and then take a clean cloth of mild soap and water and wash the spot where the gum was stuck. Polish when dry and your leather should be fine.

If it is cloth, you can get it off the seats the same way you got it off your jeans. Or you can use the peanut butter method. Just be careful. Work tiny amounts of peanut butter into the gum and remove the gum as you work. When you are left with just the gum residue on your seat you can put some PB on it and then wash with a damp, soapy cloth. Rinse well, this may be a good time to get your seats shampooed!

Good luck :)
I have four kids and I use "goo gone" and it works every time!!
Goo Gone is good stuff. I have used WD40 too.
Put ice cubes directly on it. It will freeze the gum and make it possible to scrape it off the fabric.
most gum can be picked off, either when it is very soft or when it is very hard. Use ice to freeze it and then try and pick it off. You could put a substance like peanut butter on it to get it off, but the peanut butter would leave an oily stain. Try the ice first, don't rub! pick it off piece by piece.
