New Dark Brown leather couch SMELLS?! HELP!?

Question:How can I get the smell out of my new dark brown leather couch? It stinks up my whole room. I don't think it is cheap leather. I have tried baking soda in the room, but the smell is too over-powering. I saw one site said to use mink oil and another said do not use oil. I saw one site said use Febreeze and another site said do not? Does anyone know of something to use (the more natural the better)?

Answers:
Yeah, my couches stuck when I got them. After the first cleaning and conditioning the smell began to fade...try conditioning it.

wipe it over daily with vinegar
Contact a cleaning service like ServePro. They will know how to resolve this. Leather tanning is a science and if you have been within a few miles of a leather tannery in Mexico, you will notice how noxious the smell is, it is horrible and I feel for you with your sofa. I know the exact smell and it makes my stomach roil just to remember that smell. I almost bought a hand tooled leather purse while I was there but the smell of the leather was just too much!
New leather does have a smell, but there's a difference between a good new leather smell and a bad new leather smell. Some people are so sensitive to smells that even a good new leather smell bothers them... if that describes you it's really a matter of waiting because the smell fades with time.

If the smell is extremely astringent or chemical-smelling, that's an indication that it may not a high quality leather. If there is an extreme smell of formaldehyde (used in the tanning process) you may have health challenges and may want to consider returning the couch.

If the couch smells rotten, decayed or has a hint of a manure smell you got a bad deal and really should try to get your money back.

I would not use Febreze. I would use something that is intended for use on leather. Stores that sell leather couches usually also sell leather cleaning products... contact them.
THE COW IS TAKING ITS REVENGE!!!!
rent a carpet shampooer and it should have an attachment that you can use to shampoo your furniture too. try that and see if that works and if it doesnt take it back to the store you bought it from and tell them it sticks and it wont go away
