Get smell out of the underarms of shirts?

Question:My husbands tee shirts stink under the arms even after I wash them.. I have tried rubbing the detergent right on there before washing and it doesnt work... any suggestions?

Answers:
The stinky smell is in the deodorant residue that is stuck on the shirts. To get rid of the stink, you gotta get rid of the residue.

First of all, do not use bleach or hot water. Bleach will actually darken the residue and cause stains. Hot water will set the stain as will drying it with heat so if the funk is not gone after the first washing, let it air dry and repeat the process. There are several alternatives to using bleach.

Here is what has worked best for me: make a paste from baking soda and lemon juice. Work it into the underarm area, rubbing it into the fabric and pressing it through one side and out the other. Then soak the area/shirt in white vinegar or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water. Hydrogen Peroxide is a natural bleaching agent which will not discolor the residue like bleach will. Soak in either solution for 15-30 minutes. You can leave them to soak in vinegar all day, but the peroxide will eat the shirt if you let it soak too long! Wash in COLD water and repeat if necessary.

Good luck!

umm...wash it?!?! and wear a different type of deoderant
soak it in hot water then the detergent then put it in to wash

*let them soak for 5 minutes
Scissors!
Try adding some Fabrezz to the wash.
Try fox urine
I spray Shout in the areas and let them soak AND wash for the 'long' cycle and add some extra Shout into the wash water. Once the perspiration is 'set in', it is almost impossible to get it out.
Saturate the area with Spray and Wash before you wash them.
Worked for me.
Use oxyclean or another enzymatic cleaner.

Have him try different brands of deodorants to see if there is one that works better for him. Some brands don't work as well on some people.
add some white vinegar to the wash...the worse the smell, the more you add. believe it or not, your clothes will come out smelling fresh and clean, and you won't even know you used the vinegar!

good luck!
