Help with stain on my daughters favourite toy.?
Question:My 11month old daughter has a favourite piglet cuddley toy that she drags about everywhere! She sucks and chews in his ears and they have turned brown. He's in a 40'c wash every couple of days and I've tried making up Vanish solutions to soak his ears in, but they always remain brown. Any suggestions?
Answers:
Add 1/2-1 cup Borax to the wash. Borax is a natural laundry booster, non-toxic disinfectant, stain remover and it brightens laundry.
Since borax is a naturally occurring mineral, washing children's toy with it isn't toxic.
Please use the following with caution . . . obtain one of the newer OXY type cleaners and spray on and leave for 24 hours . . . then give the little guy your usual 40.C wash, but be very sure you rinse all of the cleaner out . . . it is most likely less toxic than other cleaners, but to be sure, nonetheless, rinse very well so she won't become sick. I think you'll see a stark difference . . . I have even gotten out spaghetti sauce this way. You'll be surprised.
Sounds like you should throw it out. I know it's hard as it's probably sentimental, but your saughter shouldn't continue to suck on his ears if they're brown.
Anything that does manage to get the stain out will be very high in chemicals and it would be dangerous to your daughter to put the toy in her mouth after washing it in something so severe.
Spray or pour on some White Vinegar and scrub with an old toothbrush then just launder after the toy has been left out for a few hours. This is also safe to use around babies or use on toys Good Luck !
Try washing it, if it didn't remove buy her a new one. There are also toys for babies to chew, try buying her from the toys that babies can chew.
try adding a little vinegar to the water for cleaning his ears and add it to the wash when u wash. the vinegar shouldnt take his color out and his ears should look like new.
try a solution of vinegar bi-carb and lemon juice with a bit of water
The acids in your daughters saliva have likely caused a chemical reaction with the materials in the construction of the stuffed animal causing the browning therefore the discoloration may never be removable.
Please be advised that while borax is commonly considered a "natural" cleaner is still has some toxicity concerns for humans therefore I would not recommend it for use in this type of cleaning process where if not completely rinsed off it might possibly be injested.
