Sadly, the best way to hide stains is to buy stain-colored carpet. Generally, a dark brown dirt color (also the color of spilled pop or coffee). Navy also works well.
Otherwise, buy carpet that has been Stainmaster-ed, invest in some good spot remover (I like Woolite - it even works well on pet accidents) and invite a carpet cleaner over twice a year. That's the best way to keep carpet looking nice longer.

I'd have to say a neutral color, like a medium brown, with little specs of color in it... it would seem that would hide most stains and make sure you clean them up real well when you first notice them.
i always liked a dark color carpet,i got my own shampooer,the carpet that is in this house now has been here for over 7 yrs or more,the landlord won't do anything about it its been shampooed over and over again and you can't even tell it at all.it has parasites in it this is the worses kind of carpet to have and i got a millionaire landlord who really don't believe in fixing anything like it should,6 layers of shingles on top of the roof,but thats fine with me because he will be busted this summer.he thinks he's got contacts well i do too and i personally know the Health Department Supervisor and when i get thru he will ready to fix this house better.

The best carpet for hiding stains in a medium colored with multi colors in them. The ones with all the different shades of one color. Solid dark colors and light colored carpets are dreadful!! Also ones with patterns in them tend to hide stains better. To prevent new stains when something wet gets on your floor use salt to soak up the stain first, vaccum it then use a good cleaner and let it soak in. Use your foot to press down into the stain.
Multi-colored, dark brown, bergundy, hunter green...no no no grey!!! Grey and darker cream colors are the ugliest stained carpets!
