How can I get the moth ball smell out of the cedar chest I inherited?
Question:
Answers:
Leave it open let it air out. Wipe the insides down to remove any left over remnants. Once the smell is gone get some fine sandpaper and scratch the insides to release more cedar smell. Good luck
Leave the top open & spray Febreeze in it. I don't know why anyone would use moth balls in a cedar chest.
This is something fun that you can give away as gifts, keep one for yourself to mask the moth ball smell: Get a decorative mesh bag (very small sachet). Fill the bag with some fragrant beads. Drop the bag into one of the drawers. You can make more to put in the other drawers. Bath crystals work really well for fragrance and you can dump them in the tub when you don't want them in the drawer anymore. Many people like to hang these fragrant sachets on their rear view mirror. Once again, they make good inexpensive gifts too.
Try spraying it with Lysol Spray.
The put a scented air freshner in it
and close the lid for awhile. That
should get the smell out.
I've never tried this for moth balls but the deodorizing blocks commercial diaper services use in diaper pails have worked for me in the past on some pretty tough odors.
take newspapper and crumble /ball it up and alot of it then close it off let set for for a long time till open up.may have to change or check every 2-3 weeks.
Try using old newspaper. Roll into a ball and rub all inside surfaces then wipe with a damp cloth.
If you are smelling moth balls, and not cedar, how about lightly sanding all the cedar surfaces. This should remove the mothball odor, and return the cedar smell.
