Some laundry detergents do not dissolve leaving residue on clothes. Why & what can I add to help it dissolve?

Alot of times people use more detergent then is really needed, especially now that newer washing machines are made to use less water during a wash cycle. If you find that the detergent is leaving a residue on the clothes, you may want to first off, try using a bit less of it in your wash. If that does'nt help then you may want to run and extra rinse cycle. If you live in an apartment and have to pay for water, or use a laundrymat though, that can be expensive so switching to a different detergent may be a better option.
If you are using powder detergent, then that might be the problem.
I have never had problems with liquid detergent, especially the Arm & Hammer brand (if you are in the U.S.).
I also do two separate loads of laundry: one with dark colors and one with light colors.
Put your detergent in the washer first and add the water. Mix the water and soap for a few seconds before adding in your clothes. There really isn't anything you can add to make the detergent dissolve better. Let it mix with the water first, then add your clothes last. That should help some.
unclump it...usually water has gotten it and harden the powder..
and you can always flush it with liquid detergent before putting it in the machine.
Put the detergent into the machine and let it mix around with the water a bit before you put the clothes in. If you use powder, let it mix a little longer than if you're using liquid.
By the way, if you're using the powdered tablets (which are particularly bad about leaving residue on clothes), break them up into powder before you put it in the machine.
I don't know why - maybe not enough water. I suggest that you start the water & add the detergent before putting the clothes in the washer. Let the water get to about 1/2way in the washer tub before putting in clothes.
I put my powdered laundry detergent in the washer while it its filling with water. You can then let the washer agitate for a few seconds and then add clothes. Or, use liquid detergent.
I really like All and Purex free and clear liquid detergents. Unless I washed everything in super hot water, my powder stuff always did that!
Use only liquid detergents. They don't leave residue and they clean better too.
