We're looking for a carpet washer on a budget, have you tried...?
Question:either Ryobi (EWD5570) or Vac King 25? Does the reasonable price mean they're rubbish?
Or have you got any other carpet washer, would you recommend it? It needs to deal with a mechanic, a baby and a cat!
Answers:
I bought a carpet washer from Argos about four years ago, and I wash the carpets once a week (guinea pigs, dog, cats, three kids!). It was a cheap one, and it works a treat. I would definitely recommend it. The only thing I find a chore with it is washing it out after using it - not pretty!
I'm not familiar with any of the models you mention, but I would have thought they all work pretty much the same way - you're basically spraying on shampoo mixed with hot water, and sucking it up again. They don't do a really deep clean, but do deal with spills and animal accidents and dander really well.
I'd go for it. Wouldn't have a lot of confidence in it if your mechanic leaves oil stains though...!
i'm not sure if this is helpful, but i know that stores like sears, target and kmart rent them out. not sure of the price or if any of those stores are by you.
otherwise, my mom bought a carpet shampooer from bissel company (spelling). but thats pricey stuff.
I wouldn't bother investing in a carpet washer, just hire one every 4-6 months for a day or so. That way you get a fantastic machine without having to shell out hundreds and hundreds of pounds. Something like Rug Doctor http://www.rugdoctor.co.uk/
I'm inclined to say any old wet vacuum. Its the method that scores the points.
NEVER, EVER use washing up liquid, it contains Glycerine (thats why its 'kind to hands that do dishes'...tra la...) and, wiil leave a film on the carpet which will attract all the dirt.
For Mechanic oil or grease, use a wipe/rub over with Pant Brush Restorer first, it will break the oil to water washable. If you have very bad stains etc, use normal concentrated 1001 (diluted ) and 20% ammonia. otherwise, use 1001 at normal dilution. The most effective way is to hand-scrub the carpet (great for exercise, done to music!) then warm water rinse and dry with even the cheapest wet vac. The idea here is that you loosen the dirt by scrubbing, then rinse out the muddy mix. Really gets the carpet clean, and the body trim!
Most of the hardware stores rent carpet cleaning machines by hours or days. Rent one. This is a better solution than buying one. You will also get expert advice from them as to how to use it.
