How to properly clean a watch?

How do you clean a wrist watch? that has the metal links?

Answers:
If it is waterproof, soak in mild detergent and water and rinse under the faucet in warm water. If not water resistant, use a damp cloth with something like 409 on it to dab clean.

I took mine to Bailey Banks & Biddle and they cleaned it up for free.
