How to get grime off of bathtub caulking?
Question:I'm doing a complete cleaning of my apartment. My roommate is somewhat disgusting (ha ha). About an hour ago I removed her hygiene products from the end of the bathtub which she uses and it was covered in black grime. I managed to get the stuff off of everywhere but the caulking. I've been trying different things to get it off, I even went through my collection of easy off bam products, mr. clean, magic eraser, etc. Any suggestions?
Answers:
Caulking is a toughie to clean. It is porous, so it absorbs the "black grime" You can try spraying it with a bathroom cleaner (I reccoment lysol with bleach in the spray bottle) and letting it sit for a little bit, maybe 15 mins or so, then try to get it off. If that doesnt work, you will have to remove the old caulking and re-caulk it. Good luck!
bleach or pine-sol works ok...
that's what i use...
Vinegar, This natural, all-purpose liquid can save you a lot of time and money..then swap room mates
Spray Tilex mold & mildew on all the caulking, let sit for at least 30 minutes then rinse with water, if you let it sit long enough it will just rinse the gross stuff off without chewing up the caulking! Make sure you have plenty of ventillation as well
Some of the suggestions is good like vinegar and baking soda together if that does not work try WD40 I know it sounds crazy but I have use it before on caulking. If you can get your roommate to wipe down around the bathtub when getting done taking a bath then it would not get griming.
Also WD40 is a good water repellent. I use it all the time on sinks like stainless still. I put it on a cleaning towel when I get done cleaning the sink I use the towel with WD40 on it to wipe dry. It is good stuff. The only bad thing it does stink. Make sure when you use it plenty of air stirring
bleach base cleaning products
