Why do my glasses turn cloudy and white in my dishwasher?
Question:I have used all brands of tablets and rinse aid. I am told I do not need salt due to the type of water in this area but again have tried both using salt and not using salt but a white deposit is forming on the outside of the glasses and its getting worse. Dishwasher only 18 months old

Some dishwasher detergents contain abrasives and are well known for causing the "clouding" of glasses. Try a product called Finish glass safe. Some glassware are susceptible to dishwasher damage and the manufacturers do advise not to place their product in dishwashers.
I hope that this sheds some light on your problem.
It's caused from the salt in your water. My mom has the same problem with theirs. Try using vinegar. It helped her out a lil...
Try running a cycle on ur dishwasher with nothing in it...just to give it a good clean
before you start the dishwasher go to your kitchen sink and do this
1. Turn on the hot water
2. Wait until it is coming out hot(run for about 30-45 secs)
3. start your dishwasher
4. turn off the Kitchen Sink
This should remove what salt and lime you had in the bottom of your Water Heater do this everytime you start the dishwasher after about 2 times doing this you should have Clear Glass
Run the dishwasher empty for a cycle and dump 1/4 cup of CLR to clear some of the lime deposits out. This usually helps. Then use the jetdry product for the rinse - it will keep the glasses clear.
do you have salt in there. Do you use a rinse aide.
Also avoid opening the door until the drying cycle has completed
The chemicals in the dishwasher tablets eat into the glass. It doesn't matter what type of dishwasher tablets you buy this is going to happen. The softer the glass the worse it is - never ever ever wash your best glasses in the diswasher.
Either wash your glasses by hand or put up with the cloudyness. I use cheap glasses for everyday and have "good" ones for best. The cheap ones get put through the dishwasher and used until they get smashed.
I am guessing that your dishwasher does not heat the water hot enough to dissolve the tablets completely. This basically turns the tablets into a sandblasting machine. Try a liquid detergent in your DW. Your glasses are being etched.
Are they , sorry, cheap glasses? I've had cheap glasses and they went white, but pay a bit more and they're ok.
wash them by hand
could be they are not to be used in the dishwasher.
check the rinse aid and salt and always wash on the lowest temperature
This is a limescale problem. You should be using salt in your dishwasher and also rinse aid. I still use both even though i also use the 4 in 1 type tablets and my glasses are fine. Occassionally you could also use the Finish dishwasher cleaner which will rid your dishwasher of any old residue of lime or chemicals or put a good measure ( cap full) of lime scale remover in and run the programme empty on 40deg.
but a fresh lemon costs pennies and rub around glasses rinse and hey presto gleaming , put salt and rinse aid in dishwasher, it wont do its job properly if you dont use the correct products ..
I was told by an appliance repairman that using too much detergent will cause glasses to become cloudy and get etched.
