Does anyone know the problem when the dishwasher leaves crumbs ect on the clean dishes after the wash cycle?

Could be a few things.
An OLD dishwasher just doesn't have the umph to clean lots of things left on dishes.
BUT, the water has to be HOT, and you have to use the correct cycle.
If it just isn't getting them off to begin with make sure you are using hot water. Maybe use the pot scrubber cycle on extremely dirty or dried on food dishes.
It it's getting them clean but the rinse water is putting them back on the dishes then drying them on there, clean your drain filter in the bottom of the dishwasher.
Yes, doesn't that drive you crazy? You have to get to the bottom of the dishwasher-pull lower rack out. Take something and get all the stuff stuck around it and in the little holes. Then make sure you have the cascade liquid you pour in the door itself. This worked for me, so I do it regularly now. Hope it works before you have to call the repair man.
Try rinse and hold as a preliminary cycle before putting in the soap for the normal wash cycle. Sometimes the food can get baked on but you shouldn't have to manually rinse each plate in cold water (as I have seen some people do) prior to placing them in the dishwasher. Another tip that may help is to wash the dishes straight after they are used rather than waiting, otherwise if you are going to leave them for a day then pre-rinsing in the machine or sink may be necessary.
This may be caused by the soap or you can try repeating the wash cycle again if that doesn't help try using a different kind of soap. Liquid soap is what works best for me.
Empty your dishwasher and pour one large bottle of white vinegar in to it and leave it for one hour then do a hot wash
with no soap . This should work for you. After doing this
start to rinse dishes before you put them in the dishwasher.
try cleaning out the filter
Your drain may be clogged. There's a screen type thing with holes at the bottom of the washer, make sure nothing is blocking it. Clear it out and try another load of dishes and see if that helps. Also, get some jetdry, that is good stuff for water spots.
Using a gel type dishwasher detergent, instead of the powdery type, worked for me.
Check also that you don't have a "Robbie"
That is a Robbie Fowler- something that gets in the way of (fouls) the rinse arms and stops them spinning. A large pan or plate may do this and then it messes up the wash. I usually check nothing is "fowling" these arms by giving a little spin before I start the machine.
Somethings though kind of 'weld' on with the heat. eggs and cheese are very bad- the proteins in them cook on to the plate. With these I usally do a preliminary cold water rinse in the sink first, then dishwash.
