Milky glasses?
Question:How can you get the milky look off glasses in the dishwasher or otherwise?
Answers:
Try running vinegar (about a cup) with your dishes, it should cut the film and cleans your dishwasher at the same time. After a couple of washings with vinegar you can cut back to every 2 or 3 loads with vinegar. Also if you have hard water always run powder detergents. Run a rinse aid. And if all that doesn't clear up your glasses they probably have been etched. Unfortunately running glasses through the dishwasher with out a rinse aid can lead to etching (lot of little scratches all over the glasses.
I bet you have hard water deposits on your glasses. It happens when your water has a lot of minerals in it. You might do asearch on the net for "hard water deposit on glasses" and see if that gives you any suggestions. Sorry, I am not much help.
sounds like hard water.but also do you use a rinse agent in your dishwasher as well as the soap. not the rinse agent that is included with the soap...buy the liquid one and place in the appropriate place...it will do the trick for you.
I work for a chemical company and please read the following
Older glass is often found with cloudiness or etching caused by chemicals in dishwashing detergent or by water or alcohol standing in vases or decanters over a long period of time. I've had some success removing etching with these methods:
1. Fill the item with hot water, drop in a denture cleaning tablet, and let stand for half an hour or so. Use a bottle brush to clean the inside of the item. If the inside is too small or too deep to use a bottle brush, drop a tablespoon or two of uncooked rice into the item and swish it around to "scrub" the interior.
2. Wet your fingers with water and dip into a bowl of baking soda. Rub interior and exterior of glass item and rinse. This works very well for light dishwasher etching.
3. Use a strong cleaner like Goof-Off (not the orange-scented version).
4. Use a metal polish like Simichrome. This works surprisingly well on light etching if the shape of the piece allows you to get to the etched part of the item.
These remedies don't always work. If the etching is too serious, sometimes there is nothing that can be done to cure "sick" glass. If all else fails, displaying the piece with water inside (with or without food coloring added) makes the etching less obvious
Try pouring white vinegar into the affected glasses. If it doesn't come off, then the glass has been "etched" in the dishwasher. The ones you see it on have made more trips through the dishwasher than the ones you are not seeing it on.
It happens, and you just have to toss those glasses, and buy new ones. Never put valuable, expensive crystal or glassware in the dishwasher, hand wash it.
You can mix half water and half vinegar, put in glasses and let them sit overnight. Then hand wash, and dry. Or you can use a paste of BonAmi powdered cleanser. Rub the glasses and rinse. BonAmi is the only cleanser that won't scratch glass, chrome or anything. I've used it to clean flower vases and glasses. It works well.
