Has anyone used Eco Balls instead of conventional washing powder?
Question:What did you think? Are they any good and worth buying?
Answers:
I've used them for a while now and find them fine for most of my washes. They don't get really dirty stuff clean (but neither did conventional washing powder!) and your washing doesn't smell of the perfumes that you may be used to with conventional powders. The ones I bought came with a tiny tube of stain remover which for an eco product works surprisingly well. Apparently for best results they recommend your washing machine should only be 75% full. You might also find that your washing machine might pong a little after you've used them a long while because you're not using perfumed powder or liquid. But apparently this is happening more anyway with low temperature washing powders. An occasional hot wash with biological powder is supposed to sort it out. On the plus side, the eco balls don't take up much room in your cupboard, they last for ages, they don't smell of chemicals, or perfume (which can be a bit strong with some powders) and if you're allergic to washing powder or its smell they offer a good alternative. Clothes also tend to bobble less (but can wear in other ways). You can always add fabric conditioner (which you don't need with the eco balls) or a drop or two of an essential oil if you want things to smell nice. And you can feel virtuous in not using so much of the unfriendly conventional stuff!!
As for worth buying? It depends what's important to you. Do you want 'whiter than white' washing? If so they're not for you. Do you like washing powder smells and spectacular stain removal? Not for you either... But if you can adjust to clothes being clean without glowing white and smelling of your garden then yep I'd give them a go.
i tried them and the result was lausy...
I also tried them and didn't think they worked. If it sounds too good to be true, then it usually is. Bummer.
i`ve tried them and didnt think they were much good on whites or really dirty things. i do still use them sometimes on a dark wash tho.
