What is that smell!!??
Question:after i was my pants of any material they smell fine, then days later when i go to wear them, in the middle of the day they smell like mildew! what's up with that? is it my detergent?
Answers:
Like several people have said, they haven't dried properly. You said you hang them to dry for "several days" and the moisture doesn't get out quickly enough, and mildew forms. the smell is there even after they dry, and after wearing them half a day, your natural body moisture reactivates the mildew. You can prevent this by putting a cup of white vinegar in the rinse water. The vinegar kills mildew and prevents it from forming again while they line dry. Either that, or put them in the dryer right away, rather than several days later, to remove moisture immediately. The vinegar is what will solve the problem. You can get a half gallon of regular white vinegar at the grocery store for just a buck or two.
wish I could help
add some details please.
what detergent?
maybe they are not drying properly you might want to try some febreeze
Maybe there is mildew in your washer or dryer, check them out.
no sweety it might be your body odor. is happens all the time to people. i dont think tha material is made 4 ur natural smell.
Sounds to me like maybe they are not completely dry. Leave them running in the dryer alittle bit longer to see if that helps.
Make sure they're dry all the way before you put them away, and run some bleach and hot water thru your machine by itself
It could be that they are not being dried all the way. Sometimes, even if pants, especially jeans feel dry, right out of the dryer, they are not actually all the way dry. I would try both longer amounts of time in the dryer and also some dryer sheets. Good Luck.
more than likely or do you leave them in a damp place or a place where there is ciggie smoke?
it might be ..try another detergent..with a good smell..
Your dryer probably did not do its job after the washing, and the clothes were folded and put away when still moist. Moisture + darkness = mildew. Dry your heavier clothes, like towels and jeans, longer than other materials. Add softener sheets like Bounce to add pleasant fragrance.
Yes, it could be your detergent, but it happens at my house when the clothes are left in the washer overnight and then dried. It is mildew.
mystery, body odor doesn't smell like mildew! (if it does, you have some problems man!)
If you let your pants air dry, they will smell like this. Drying them in the dryer will stop that, but of course then they might shrink. I put my jeans in the dryer for 20 minutes with a Bounce sheet, then hang them up to dry the rest of the way, and that eliminates mildew odors.
Could be several things - air quality, humidity, mold or your own personal fragrance mixing badly with the perfume of the laundry detergent.
I'd go for the later and try either not wearing perfume or using unscented detergent.
Try some Damp-Rid where you hang your clothes or store them this may help eliminate the moisture in your closet they make this product especially for closets as well as damp basements. It couldn't to try this for a while. I don't think it's your detergent.
If you do indeed "air dry them for days", this might be the source of your problem. If you're not drying them in the sun and/or drying them in a dark place, then they might not dry very quickly, allowing mildew to grow in them. Drying may not subsequently kill them, allowing the odor to resume when you wear them. I'd suggest either (a) dry them right away in the dryer or (b) dry them in the sun, although this will sun-damage them if you have the wrong sort of fabrics/colors for this. Air-drying for days seems to be pointless.
If your washer and dryer is in the basement you could have a moisture problem that is causing mildew. Sometimes if you leave your clothes sit in a wet or damp basement for some time they can get this smell. And if you leave your dirty clothes in the bathroom in a hamper they can get enough moisture there to. Make sure you are not putting any wet clothes in your hamper with dry ones and that you are not leaving your clothes sit in the washing machine. You may have to switch laundry detergents or fabric softeners. I knew someone that there body chemicals when mixed with mens cologne would start to smell like bug spray or something really rancid. This man had to wear womens cologne and it smelled like the mens cologne would. It could also just be your water. If all else fails and you've tried everything you may have to install a filter on your water. It could also be the location that you are letting your clothes dry. Good luck
Air drying them allows the mildew to set in. You need to dry them in the dryer as soon as they get done washing. Don't let them sit in the washer for a while before you switch them over either.
Where are you storing them? I would check that area first. Also, are you using the dryer to dry them? They may not be completely dry when you put them away. If you hang them to dry, make sure they are in an area that is not damp.
soak them in vinegar and water for a long time
they probably got left wet and mildewed
