How safe are cleaning and odor eliminating sprays?
Question:I'd to know, are kitchen cleaners toxic to inhale if you use them everyday? Are cleaners with bleach worse than other cleaners?
What about odor eliminators? I keep my cat's litter box clean, but I can't stop the odor all the time. Is it safe to spray an odor eliminator after every time I clean the litter box? What about using too much febreeze?
Answers:
It is best to use dish soap for your everyday cleaning in the kitchen. Maybe two times or one time a week use the strong stuff. When using bleach products it is best to dilute with two parts water to one part of chemical. always make sure the room is well ventilated. Bleach is stronger than none bleach but to kill every germ must be used. I found that Fbreeze only last for a short time. best to buy cat litter with Oder eliminators already. box with a top and filter and door are the best.
oh lord, frebreeze is awful stuff. it just makes my nose itch! and bleach is sodium hypochlorite (bleach) - a corrosive chemical, sodium hypochlorite is an eye, skin and respiratory irritant, as well as a sensitizer. it is especially hazardous to people with heart conditions or asthma, and can be fatal if swallowed. it may be a neurotoxin and toxic to the liver. found in a wide range of household cleaners.
try citrus air freshener (trader joe's sells a good one) and for cleaning, citrisolv mixed with water for oil-based dirt and other dirt, and nature's miracle enzyme cleaner for pet soils and other dirt. these are clean, natural products that don't irritate your lungs or skin, and they WORK.
Personally I dont' like most of the sprays especially after reading caution statments on the labels and things I've heard. Best idea - Charcoal. I found the perfect product for this and know so many other people that use it. It is a natural fragrance free carbon product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great and eliminates the odors and for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda all those sprays, and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, pets, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just put one or two in around problem areas including litter box. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it and Internet. Definitely worth trying
Great Question..As you probably know these products you mention are Chemicals , I am not sure but i can guess that if you spend day in and day out breathing these chemicals they will do tissue damage and cause who knows what maladies
So I would just limit my exposure to them ...good luck
