How do we make our own detergent from materials found at home or supermarket?

Question:

Answers:
Fireplace ash and fat left from cooking. Look up soap making online.

If I'm out of Tide I use shampoo. It is really good if clothes are only a little dirty. Dawn would work if clothes are very soiled.
But a homeade recipe - I'm at a loss. If you use some of the Dawn or shampoo don't use as much as if you were using a liquid detergent because of high sudsing.
