Have a problem with my washing machine not 'spinning'?

Question:My washer won't always spin on the spin cycle, but seems to work fine for the rest of the wash. It's worse with heavier loads, like towels, but has done it other times with just clothes. It still makes a noise, like it's spinning, but when you open the lid the tub isn't moving. If I catch it like that, with the lid open, and push the button down myself, it's like something 'catches', and then it will spin properly. Anyone have a similar problem, or know what it could be? It's from Sears, and not even 3 yrs. old. It's only 2 of us in the house, so it's definitely not overused or anything. They just don't make anything like they used to! lol

sounds like the timer switch (selector button)

Unbelievable! My Kitchen Aide washer does EXACTLY the same thing - so I hope we can both get a good answer. . . Mine's about 5 years old (but has been doing this over a year). But on mine when I push down the latch button, I usually have to give the tub a good manual turn to get it going. And like yours, this happens "now and then" - - I never know until I open the lid if I'm going to have to wait through another spin cycle. . .
AAAARGH... The transmission has been replaced, and our friend the Kitchen Aide Repairman has run out of ideas until it finally "breaks". Here's hoping for both of us!!
your load may be too heavy and it knocks it off balance..try not putting so much in the washer at once...that was what was wrong with mine...hopefully it works for ya
I would call Sears and ask them to send some one out to fix it.
