Cleaning the grates on a gas grill (outside)?

Question:What is the quickest way to clean the grates on a gas grill? Last year I used sprayed on oven cleaner, but when I rinsed it off outside with the waterhose, the grass died. Anyone have any ideas?

Answers:
I wouldn't use oven cleaner because you have to be very neurotic to get all of the chemical washed off and you actually put your food directly on those grates when grilling. Not a real good idea, kwim?
What I do is just start the grill and let the grates get really hot. Then scrub them down with a wire brush. Use some metal tongs to pull them off the grill and then hose them down. No soap or detergents needed.

You now I find the best think for this is your own washing up liquid and a wire brush. also baking powder is good. Soak the grates in enough warm water , just so it cover them, then add the baking powder, leave for 10 min“s or so then wash with normal washing up liquid
Well I usually don't cook my food directly on the grate. I usually put aluminum foil over the grate. But if you would like to have a clean looking grate for show, I would say to use the oven cleaner but wash the grate inside, maybe in your shower or sink. The only other thing that I would think that would work is the magic eraser, those are sold at walmart, winn dixie, publix, pretty much anywhere. I hope this helps.
