How do I get rid of that black gunk that is accumulating on the surface of my iron?

Question:It's ruining my clothes!

Answers:
Easy but be careful!

This is how the US military taught us.

1. Heat up the iron
2. Get a washcloth you don't mind ruining,
3. put the washcloth in plenty of COLD water and keep it
sopping wet
4. Scrub the bottom of the iron. When the washcloth gets hot, rinse it in cold water again

You could probably buy a dish washing brush, but make sure that it's able to withstand some heat.

You could also use steel wool or a metal brush, but this can ruin the surface of teh iron and it may become prone to rust.

Clean the bottom of your iron gently with warm water & S.O.S. pad or fine steel wool. Then after all the black gunk is off, heat up your iron and iron on a piece of wax paper. The wax paper will give your iron a nice smooth finish again so the iron glides over your clothing properly. GOOD LUCK!
Turn off the hour and use Methylated sprites on an old cloth to dissolve the gunk.
