Lysol makes a fabric refresher that will not only kill the germs, including staph and strep, but it won't harm the fabric or leave a residue that attracts dirt and dust. I use regular old Lysol after someone in my home has been ill on light switches and door handles for peace of mind.

Good 'ole Lysol has worked for that purpose for years and it's easy to apply. If I have a sick child, I spray it on everything after they have used it, sofas, chair arms, doorknobs, sink faucets, toilets, etc. I do it discreetly so they don't feel offended.
