How do I wash my knickers without fading the colours?
Question:I normally wash them at 40 on a quick wash. Is there any way of washing coloured clothes without fading them. I bought about 10 pairs of knickers about two months ago and they are already faded and they were from La Senza.

Its not so much the temperature (although cooler is good) its your detergent because they have bleaching agents. I do all mine on a gentle wash, with other other delicates like nighties, slips, etc. Or a gentle hand wash. I also separate all my washes- i do all blue, all black, all red etc., i know its fussy and time consuming but i hate having washing that is discoloured because it has been washed with all kinds of colours.
In cold water, by hand, with Woolite or some other gentle detergent. Line dry.
As Brenda said, and i would also turn them inside out to save the color.
colour washing powder should do the trick. Ordinary powder has bleaching agents for whites.

The supermarkets do special bottles for lingerie, in with the specialist wash ranges. I handwash in cool water, but they still fade after a time.
I've worked in the Theatre Costume industry for 20 years and dying fabric was one of my jobs.When you're washing a coloured garment for the first time wash it in cold water and add a cup or two of vinegar or salt to the wash water.This should set the colours. (I believe that companies use cheap methods of dying and no setting of dyes so the consumer will have to go back and buy more.)
