Best way to clean a deep fat fryer?
Question:Hello,
Would anyone know an easy and quick way of removing stuck on fat from a deep fat fryer (it is on the outside and inside). I was given the fryer, to do occasional deep frying, and it has this yellow sticky fat stuff on it, which I can't seem to get off with hot water and suds. I have tried Cilit Bang (universal degreaser), and it didn't do anything.
It has a plastic case (I think it is Tefal).
Thank you!

Before cleaning the deep-fat fryer, you must turn off the heating element and allow the fat to cool to about 150°F. Drain the fat out of the fryer. Then remove the basket support screen, scrape off the oxidized fat from the sides of the kettle with a spatula or scraper, and flush down the sediment with a small amount of fat. If the kettle has become very dirty, fill it to the level with hot water containing dishwashing machine detergent. Turn on the heating element and allow the water to come to a boil. Boil the water for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Turn off the heating element, drain, rinse with warm vinegar water, then rinse thoroughly with clear water, and dry the fryer well. Clean the outside of the fry kettle with a grease solvent. Do not leave heating element turned on when the deep-fat fryer is empty.
Dawn dishwashing soap and warm water, even on the outside, but be patient...You have to soften it up by scrubbing lightly for a while. Don't use anything harsh like oven cleaner on the plastic. Dishwashing soap does dissolve fat...it just takes a little time.
Try oven clean and if that does not work then throw it away.
Get the wife to do it !!!!
try some vinegar diluted with water.
if using vinegar and water on the inside make sure you wipe it out with a clean cloth afterwards or whatever you cook may taste of vinegar
The best thing I know for getting rid of anything like this is Starclens, made by the same people who make Stardrops. You get it in Semi Chem for about 60p. Wipe it on, leave it for about 10mins and then go at the grease with one of those metal scourers (not a Brillo one, the type with the larger coils) or a nylon scrubbing mat. Hope this helps
The best way would be to toss it out and buy yourself a George Foreman Grill! I swear by mine.
After emptying mine, I turn the heat back on, and try to melt and wipe off the excess grease on the inside and out. I also use S.O.S. pads on the metal parts (mine's stainless steel).
Anything I can't get off, I just put it in the dishwasher and that takes care of it. Dishwasher temps get hotter than dishwater, so grease comes off easier.
As a last resort, try the webpage of the manufacturer for cleaning tips!
Good Luck!
With warm water and baking powder, add warm water then 1 tablespoonful of baking powder, leave for 10 min´s. You might need more baking powder , just depends on how bad the oil stains are. Then wash with normal dish washing liquid. Fairy liquid is the better one for this kind of job. Use warm water not hot
Whatever you can pull off the deep fryer... stick in the dish washer.
Get a Mr. Clean magic eraser, get it wet with hot water... then rub off the grease on the outside. It'll bead off... If needed, use some 409 to help with the cutting process.
A little elbow grease will get it off nicely.
try fairy power spray or spray on sugar soap, which is a good oil/grease solvent. (available at supermarkets at diy section)
