My dryer sounds like it has sand in it. any suggestions on how to clean it out?

pop the top
remove the front and take out the drum
check the slides and rollers/bearing
I suspect the glides/slides are worn down to where they are allowing the tub to rub the front housing.
Try to vacuum it out, using the hose. Make sure your lint trap is clean as well. Do you use those Fabric Softener sheets? If you do they will cause a static in the dryer that will pull loose particles to the lint trap. You want to use those for the next few loads. It will vanish on its own over time, but make sure to clean the lint trap after every load.

first clean the lint trap, then put an old and very wet towel in it and run for at least 10 minutes.
