I washed my dishes with shampoo is that bad?

Question:We ran out of Washing Up Liquid so I just used some shampoo (Clairol Herbal Essences - rose) and my boyfrineds said it was disgusting to do so? Is it bad? will we get poisoned? I dont think so, but my boyfriend is convinced otherwise... was i wrong to do so?

Answers:
No its not bad and no you won't get poisoned.

Its not bad because all detergents (and shampoo is a detergent) have the same chemical base.

It won't poison you because it has to be safe enough to put on your scalp.

My niece drank shampoo and nothing happened to her apart from some very shiny poos for a day or two.

I think your boyfriend is a bit neurotic. Tell him to stop wobbling around and appreciate you for the hard-working lateral-thinking gem you are.

Just don't wash your hair with dishsoap.
You wont get poisoned. You might not have as clean dishes though.
No nothing will happen to u just rinse it off or ur food might taste like rose. Its just soap not ideal for washing dishes but hey Improvise adapt and survive
uh i dont think it was a very good idea to wash your dishes with shampoo but i dont think you will get poisened or anything but i would be a little worried
no you wont get poisoned. it might not quite have the cleaning power of fairy liquid but you'll be fine

ha ha sorry but that's quite funny
Nah - its only soap just like the washing up liquid, I think thats absolutely fine.
it's not exactly healthy or good for you. but it definately won't kill you especially if you rinsed them well. If you ever run out of dish soap. and u cannot afford to spend a dollar or two to get more, use handsoap or bar soap before using shampoo. but in response to your question directly, no u will not get poisoned. Is it bad not necessarily. Is it something i would recommend, no.
at least they'll smell nice and have a lovely shine off them, haha.
no you weren't wrong, at the end of the day it is soap, years ago i did mine with cloths washing powder!!
If boyfriend don't agree tell him to make sure you don't run out of things indoors then!
I read some these answers HOW THE HELL CAN YOU GET POISONED<!!!!!
Disgusting? What's up with that? It's just soap. When camping one time, I used dishwashing liquid on my hair when I coudn't find the shampoo. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Boyfriend needs to think outside the box.
I really don't think it will hurt in a pinch just as long as you rinsed them really well, because it will probably leave more of a residue than dish washing liquid.
Hey, what's more disgusting? Dirty dishes, or shampooed dishes?
No they dont put anything in shampoos that are poisnes.I dont suggest drinking it...but washing liquid is a better alternirnitive
all will be fine..just rinse well
Just make sure that you rinse the cutlery and utiensils off in cold water - should be ok
Like all soaps, hair shampoo is a detergent. Your dishes should be just fine. They will smell good!!
LOL sounds like something I would do... I don't think it will hurt you... Just a tip, don't put regular soap in the dishwasher,,, Thats a disaster
You can wash your Dishes in Shampoo, but make sure you rinse it well with hot water(obviously) also hand grease is a good way so get stuck in.
Don't worry. I do that all the time and there's nothing wrong with me.

Gibber! Gibber! SPONG!
Not really. I once had a case of thrush (through stress), and accidentally put hair removing cream on my privates by mistake as the tubes looked the same! THAT was bad!
It won't be strong enough to get rid of all the bacteria on your dishes. I would wash them again with some washing up liquid. You won't get poisioned though!
not something i would do but aslong as they are rinsed properly you will be fine.
i have done the dishes with shower gel before ,but i didnt lose any sleep over it,i think you need to stop worrying about silly things.would you be allowed to wash your hair with shampoo if it was poisonous ,i think yor being silly ,x
nooo - a touch odd perhaps. Hope you rinsed them well.
No, you won't get poisoned but just make sure you rinse the dishes well otherwise you might taste the perfume that was in the shampoo, on your food.
Did they start going 'oooh aaaah' When you washed them? Heehee. Don't worry about it as long as you rinsed them off you'll be fine :)
It's not anti bacterial like most washing up liquids but seriously neither were any of the ones we used until several years ago. Washing up liquid is designed so that you can;t taste it, if you use shampoo make sure you rinse it really welll so that you can;t taste it
thats terrible funny but terrible
Why is it disgusting? It's a washing agent. I do it ALL the time when I run out of dishwashing liquid and I don't feel like running to the market. I'm alive after over 20 years... I have also used laundry detergent. again.. it's a washing agent. Although the laundry detergent has to be rinsed off really well. Hell even better, I have used dishwashing detergent in my wash, and I have also used shampoo in the wash... LOL. If your boyfriend has a problem with it, tell him to run to the market!
No did it get rid of the dandruff!
I shouldn't think you'd come to any harm but the next meal may be tainted if you haven't rinsed. I don't know about anyone else but I always rinse after washing up. Anyway, using shampoo probably isn't a lot different to some of the washing up liquids.
