What shall I do with my old clothes?
Question:Is it alright that I just dump all outside my house to save time (I know the needy will pick them up anyway) or must I make a trip down to Salvation Army to donate?
Answers:
If you are not planning a yard sale in your near future I would consider making the trip to the salvation army. You might be able to find a nearby church or charitable org. that would like them as well. I also know that if you have enough stuff, you could call the kidney foundation or the retarded citizens of america and they may come out and pick them up, you wouldn't even have to drop them off anywhere! The great thing is that if you donate themm you are making a charitable contribution and if you get a receipt you can use that as a deduction on your taxes next year!
have a yard or garage sell, make some money out of them, and whatever clothes are left donate them.
I would take them to the Salvation Army or Goodwill.:)
Post them on your local FreeCycle bulletin board, and then someone who wants them can arrange to come and get them, helping you both out.
Have a heart..take the extra effort to take it to the Donation Center...be it Salvation Army, Red Cross, or Goodwill. Maybe doing a good deed will warm your heart. Don't just dump it outside...would you want 2nd hand clothes that just was left outside?
Get your friends to clean out their closets then have an exchange party. They may be old to you, but new to some one else. What ever isn't taken, bring to the Salvation Army.
I prefer to take my clothes to a local women and children's shelter. many of these women and kids have left their homes for their own safety and now are left without many of the possessions they once had. they are usually in a bit of a financial crisis as well. lots of people donate to the salvation army or goodwill (which is great too!) but i get a real sense of helping others when i donate there.
You should donate them to a nonprofit organization. Like one that helps homeless kids. Plus you can use your donation for a tax write off.
If you look, I'm sure you'll find receptacles all over your town/city to use to dispose of your clothes. Or you can suck it up and take a trip to the salvation army. Or goodwill. Or some local homeless shelter or church. Or you can sign up for freecycle.org, post a message, leave them outside and someone will pick them up.
u don't necessarily have to go to the salvation army to donate ur old clothes- there are bins put in parking lots especially for clothes and shoes that u don't want anymore.
I agree, try selling them, and then donate the profits to your local shelter or food banks.
Come on now.
Go to the trouble to pack clean used clothing and anything else you don't want neatly in a box and call Salvation Army. They are the one that I always call and they give you a receipt for tax purposes. Salvation Army does pick up at your door. Thanks for helping them to help others.~~~~Jill
If they are decent you could offer them to an organisation that helps women dress for interviews. Make sure to get a tax receipt. You would not believe the deduction available for things such as this.
Donating is nice...another option (if they're in nice shape) is a consignment shop. At least you'd get a few bucks back for them
I take my old clothes to a local church that has a clothing closet. It's a place where people can go to get clothing for free. Better than the Salvation Army. Or sometime I take them to a consignment shop. They sell them for you and keep a percentage.
Look in your local phone book for Easer Seals. They will send a truck out to pick up stuff. They are a veterans charity.
If you bring them to the salvation army you can get a tax write off. Or you could see if you have any vintage/second hand clothing stores around you, ie. Plato's Closet. They'll give you cash for your old clothes. Another good idea would be to donate it to a battered womans shelter.
