Lost Earring in Washing Machine - Lie or Come Clean?!?

Question:Using my mother in law 2b's washing machine... but forgot to check my pockets...!!

During the spin it makes an awful noise, so i stopped it and checked the clothes. I found a £1 coin, my partners locker key and 1 hooped earring...! So its obviously the other earring... Its half hooped and about 5cm long (can't work out how it got through the tiny hole..?!)

I did another spin, and you can still hear the noise.. it is REALLY loud!!

My mother in law2b and her partner come back from holiday tomorrow.. they are a right moany pair.. What do i do?? Start looking around for a repair guy or leave them to find out themselves when they start the washing.. and suppose that they didn't check they're pockets!

In an ideal world i would get it fixed, but ive just finished uni and don't have a penny to my name...

Any suggestions??

Oh, come clean! If she acts all high and mighty then she's a hypocrite, everyone has done this! My washing machine started making this noise, and it was a bra wire that had gone through one of those tiny holes! At least if you admit it, they can get it fixed. Tell her you had lost the earring, and it must have got caught up in your clothes. No need to confess about the coin and key...

keep your mouth shut and check your pockets from now on, moron
Now that's a dilemma!! Okay, they say honesty is the best policy, so I would tell them. Imagine if they find out later that it was you who caused damage, they would consider you to be un-trustworthy and who knows where that could lead?
On balance it's better to be honest. It's not as if she won't notice. All you need to say is the washing machinesa making a funny noise.

If you're not honest it might not be the best start for a new daughter in law.
Look, she'll know it was probably you anyway; get yourself in her good books forever by 'fessing up, and being all contrite and upset about it. Offer to pay if it needs to be repaired. Out of politeness, they will probably refuse, but say "at least let me pay half".

It's not a huge repair, but it IS a call -out charge; what a pity - it's happened to me, but I was lucky enough to see one end of the earring poking through a hole in the drum, and just kept working at it with a tweezers until I got it.

It'd be much worse if you kept quiet, I think.
i'd probably come clean, she'll be suspicious of you forever more if you dont...

Everyone makes mistakes!
Say nothing they will have to do their washing when they get back and so will think that it was something that they left in their pockets let them think they've broken it ,Although i always check my kids pockets before washing I've found money sweetie papers, twigs, leafs, stones and toy cars and that's just some of the things
Well, if I were you I would tell the truth, Truth never hurts! actually you will get off easily if you tell the truth, at worst you will probably only have to help with the repair of the machine, or maybe you could find someone who is maybe a handyman who could help you get that earring out of the machine then your mother in laws machine will be saved. Good Luck !
I would come good for it...

You'll just have to bear up against the moaning, sorry to say...

It really says more about your character if you own up and they can get it fixed properly...

Can you imagine if they have someone in to look at it and find your earring in there after you plead you don't know why the washer is making a noise...YIKES!

Which way would you rather them find out?
Come clean ~ besides, she may have already done the same thing and knows an easy fix. Or, it may be an ongoing issue that has nothing to do with your earring. Whatever the case, she'd have to appreciate that you owned up to the fact that you *know* and want to help!
I would say come clean. If she pays out for a repairman and he finds the missing ear ring she will know it's you and that you lied. Not a good thing for the mum in law to think of you.
