Washing baby bottles in dishwasher?
Question:Could someone tell me the best place to put teats and caps in the dishwasher. Mine seem to keep coming out still greasy and the "grease" will only come off if I boil the teats. What am I doing wrong?
Answers:
I think you need to do it the old fashioned way, by giving them a good scrub to remove all traces of milk, or you could sterilize them in the microwave.
get a dishwasher basket designed for this, and wash these items on the top shelf. Make sure you are pre-rinsing your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.
Baby steriliser's are best not dishwashers for this job
Maybe put them on the top rack & try not to put greasy dishes in with them.
My sister always does her bottles & teats by hand - everything else in the house goes in the dishwasher though!!
Hi
I have only washed the bottles and caps in the dish washer, usually on the top shelf.I never clean my teats in it as they go strange!
I find that if you turn the teats inside out and use a Little salt on them it removes the grease, rinse then clean as normal.(I usually chemical sterilize my bottle teats).Hope this is of use!
When my children were small, I only used Avent bottles with the silicone teats...
I only used the top rack of the dishwasher to clean the rings and bottles,
I never cleaned the teats in there as they went a bit funny the one time I tried it..
Clean them with the hottest water you can stand is best...then give them a boil...
if you do choose do to do them in the diswasher put them in one section of the cutlery rack big end downwards so they don't get sludge in them...
and don't wash them with heavily soiled dishes, or be sure to rinse the other dishes before adding them to the dishwasher...
a good rinse aid helps as well, such as Jet Dry, I use the green apple vinegar one...it's excellent, no grease on any dishes at all...
The caps can go in the flatware basket if you have one. If not, you'll have to do the old fashioned method of boiling some water and then dropping them in that, then let air dry. (Leave them in the water about 5 minutes. Turn off the heat from the boiling water when you add the caps.) NEVER put the teats in the dishwasher! Use the boiling water method. The dishwasher detergent will make the teats brittle and they could come apart in your babies mouth. (mom of 5 and new grandma)
teats should be washed by hand using a bottle brush and boiling water , then put in a steriliser,Ive never known teats be dishwasher safe
I would suggest you use Milton Sterilising solution for your baby´s bottles.Dish washing tablet´s have a lot of chemicals in them & can´t be good for your baby. If you can´t afford to buy the sterilising unit, just use a big enough plastic container. It´s a bit more healthier for your baby
Wash teats and caps separately in a bowl of hot soapy water and scrub the inside with a bottle brush- if your baby is young you should steralise all his/her bottles and soothers in a steraliser. There is too much muck in a dishwasher to guarantee that they will be clean.
Don't wash them in the dishwasher - use warm soapy water with a good squirt of concentrated washing up liquid, and bottle and teat brushes to clean them and steralise in milton
