What is best to clean soapstone countertops?
Question:My cat has a tendency of getting on my counters. We are in the process of renovating the kitchen and want to get soapstone counters, but I'm wondering what the best way to clean them will be when my cat decides to jump up there. I usually use clorox clean up for my current counters, but I think that might be too harsh on soapstone.
Answers:
A little dishwashing liquid or an all-purpose cleanser such as any household cleanser such as Ajax or Comet and warm water is all you should use, and wipe with a soft cloth or sponge.
Rub with mineral oil every couple of weeks during the first year to help the stone oxidize (darken) evenly. Oil every two months after that.
