There is a big glob of wax in white carpet. Ice doesn't remove it. What can I do?
Question:The wax is about 4.5 inches and from 1/2 inch to a couple if inches thick. Should I just cut the carpet, remove it, and patch a new piece of carpet?
Answers:
try an iron over a towel over the wax area, it will pull off the wax so that you can see the extent of the stain, keep doing until all the wax goes and then you can blot the area with bleach or oxi clean
get a piece of wax paper and an iron. put the paper down and use the iron the re-heat the wax and peel it up. not enough heat to totally re-heat, just get it pliable and peel it up.
Try using a iron and a paper towel or towel.
take your iron and a brown bag place the bag which was cut open over the wax heat the iron rub over the bag don't press hard the wax will come up you need alot of bags and time
The piece is too big and thick for the remedies you've been given. If you can, warm it to the point that it's pliable and cut it into pieces with a utility knife or scissors. Take off as much as you can without hurting the carpeting.
Then get a rag and saturate it with ammonia and hot water. Ammonia cuts wax. You should be able to pull off more. Get to the point that you just have residue on individual strands and no major globs. Then you can use the iron method with a large paper bag. You're lucky if it's white wax on your white carpet.
The last step is to rent a carpet cleaner and do a couple of passes with hot water and ammonia, then the last pass with regular carpet shampoo. It won't smell great for an hour, but it's going to be fine and should take out the rest of the mess for you.
First cut off the excess wax down to the carpet fibers careful not to cut the carpet. Place a piece of paper (paper bag, computer paper, writing paper, paper towels whatever) over the wax and go over with a warm iron. The paper will absorb the wax and your iron will not be damaged. Continue moving the paper to a clean spot until all the wax has been absorbed. Make sure the iron is not too hot as this may damage your carpeting. You may need to use a carpet stain remover to remove any color that may be left by the wax.
Let the wax harden, then scrap off the excess with a dull knife.
Place part of a paper bag, a sheet of newspaper, paper towels, or a clean cloth over the wax.
Using a warm iron, press gently on the paper bag. Be careful not to leave the iron in one place too long or you may burn the carpet fibers.
Voila! The paper bag will soak up the melted wax.
To remove stains left from colored wax, try gently dabbing the stain with a rag dampened with rubbing alcohol. If the alcohol doesn't do the trick, Heloise, that domestic goddess, recommends using dry cleaning solvent.
If you are one of those undomesticated and crumpled slobs who doesn't own an iron, one site offered a couple of alternative solutions to the ol' wax-in-the-carpet conundrum. Try covering the wax with a cloth or paper as described above, then use a hair dryer to heat up the wax. Or, you can use ice to freeze the wax and then pick it out of your carpet. Of course, we can't vouch for these methods but if you are facing an ugly blotch on your wall-to-wall, they are certainly worth a shot.
