How much is 99 percent cotton supposed to shrink?

Question:I just bout a new pair of jeans. For me extremely hard to find. Found them at express. Anyhow, I tried on the jeans in the store they felt good, not to tight or big. Now that I had them on awhile I feel they streched alitttle bit. Will they shrink at all while washing, or should I get a smaller size?

Answers:
Cotton woven fabric, such as denim, should not shrink more than 3%. If you wash the jeans they will shrink in a bit. However, with wear, they will begin to elongate or stretch out again. This is natural to cotton. Then when you wash, they will shrink some more. They will continue to shrink through the first 3-4 washes, then they will stay about the same size.

Cotton will shrink up more then in. If you don't throw them in the dryer and wash them in cold water, there should be very little shrinkage.
Cotton doesn't usually shrink all that much.
