What is the best way to get an ink stain out of cotton shirt?
Question:My wife was issued with a new dust coat at her work. This morning she placed a pen in the top pocket and it had leaked, ending up with a big ink stain on her white uniform.
Any suggestions for the best way to remove the stain without taking any colour from the company logo which is sewn on the pocket.
Answers:
Plain rubbing alcohol will take the ink out then just rinse and wash as usual.
Milk. Pour it on and scratch the ink out. Works best if you haven't laundered it yet, but still can get some out after washing.
You will need some oxiclean and the original woolite, a bucket, washing machine, brush with small bristles (i reccomend an old toothbrush) and lots of water. none of these items will affect the colors.
Apply undiluted oxiclean and small amount of woolite directly to the stain. Do not rub at all. Put it in a small bucket with room temperatur water. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
Then wash it with regular laundry detergent and some added woolite and oxiclean. The stain might not come out all at once, but do not dry it! Once dried, it will take more applications to remove.
Reapply the woolite and oxiclean directly to the stain and brush with a toothbrush (or other small bristle brush). you will see the suds take on the color of the ink. When the suds are no longer absorbing color, rinse thouroughly with cold water and continue until the stain is almost gone.
If you need to, wash once more in the machine. Once stain is removed, you can air dry. Do not put it in the dryer. This is because sometimes a very very light discoloration appears once the material is dry that you did not see when it was wet, as the water causes the clothing's color to change a bit. The heat from the air dryer will cause the ink to bond with the cotton.
P.S. Don't use color safe bleach either.
Hopes this saves your clothign item and many more to come.
hairspray.
