How do you put sheets on your bed?

Question:This is a question I have discussed with a variety of female family members, and now my boyfriend is telling me I am silly.

What, in your opinion, is the proper way to put printed sheets on your bed? So that the printed sides face each other, or so that the printed side on the top sheet is facing up? I say they should face each other, so that if you open your bed (with the other blankets on top), you see the pretty sides of the sheets, but he says it should be the other way.

Any thoughts?

Answers:
Whether the sheets have a print or not, the "right" (or printed) sides go together. The side of the top sheet that has the nice finish on the hem (instead of the back of the hem) will then be the part touching your skin when you sleep. Looks nice, and feels better!

You can let the boyfriend know there is a practical, mechanical reason, this isn't just appearance!

Well the way you do it is the way they show them in all catalogs and magazines so I would stick with your way.
I make my bed with the printed side up for both the flat and fitted sheet. But I do know people who make the bed with the fitted sheet print side up and the flat sheet print side down. This way, if you turn your bed town at night before going to bed you see the pretty print of the sheet. Classy hotels that offer an evening "turn down" service make the bed with the flat sheet down so it shows when they turn it down. So unless you regulararly turn your bed down during the evening a couple of hours or so before bed, I wouldn't bother making the bed with the printed side down. But now that I think about it, it's not a bad idea. If I happen to be in my bedroom during the evening I will often turn the bed down. My husband and I both find it to be a warm and welcoming site when we go up to bed and see it that way. So perhaps I SHOULD make my bed your way. In fact, I think I'll go turn my bed down now!
You are correct! I have been making my bed like this all my life (and I'm 53). My grandmother taught me this and she was around when printed sheets came into fashion.
Printed pattern should face each others. Usually you fold the top sheet over the blankets and this way you can see the pattern.
I'm with you and it IS the way that it makes sense. When you turn back the covers for the night's sleep, included is the top sheet so that you can slip in between the sheets. When the top sheet is turned back, you want to see the prettiness...

You are correct :D
Men need to but out of questions like this hahahah...my husband is the same way.!
Do it your way and do it his way, then you each can have a different look every time you change your sheets!
Happiness is great looking bed. (sarcasm!)hahah
I personally did it the way your boyfriend says because it looks pretty to others who may see it. That was when I used flat sheets and such. Here is my suggestion (if you are able and if he doesn't mind NOT having a flat sheet on the bed. See, my husband (dating and married a total of 17 yrs and 4 mos) came over from Germany using only a fitted sheet and a feather bed (or duvet) with a cover. It took me some getting used to the no flat sheet but in this situation it is perfect. You can have it both ways. I never worry if the print is pretty on the outside or inside. It is pretty on both sides. If you are near an IKEA store I would recommend going there for both the comforters (duvets) and the sheets. They have some lovely sheet sets and also are very very reasonable in the price department. Good luck and I hope this helps. D.
