There are a couple of ways--1) place a glass measuring cup with water (lemon juice too if you have it) bring it to a boil in the icrowave, then take it out, and the moisture inside will help you clean it easier.
2) Check at places like Wal-Mart for easy-off microwave cleaner packets. You heat one in the microwave, then clean it out.

I'd take a lemon or lemon juice and put it in a bowl with water. Place the bowl in the microwave for three min. Then wipe out the microwave and there won't be a smell.
