How do I get my clothes to not be hard when I hang them out to dry?

Question:I wash with regular detergent, and add fabric softener.

Answers:
I use Downey with a Downey ball...so the fabric softener disperses automatically

Also, when it is hot outside and not windy that makes clothes a bit crunchy sometimes...try to wash and dry on a breezier day...

I never have an issue with crunchy clothes...

Maybe try a new fabric softner. Before I got a dryer I used Suavitel (Walmart) and it seemed to work pretty good.
Possible tuble dry them. Mine comes out hard after they've been washed and dried, but when I tumble dry them they'll come out soft.
if you use a dryer then put a dryer sheet in the machine or you can but special balls that are supposed to soften your clothes, i think tennis balls will do the same job!!
my mum told me u have to soak the clothes with the softener for 15 to 30 mins before u wash it with detergent.
I lived where you had to dry your laundry in a line out in the back yard so in order to have your clothes soft you use twice as much softener downy worked fine my laundry was as soft as can be
In my experience, the wetter the clothes are when I hang them, the harder they will be when they are dry. You could try putting slightly smaller loads in the washing machine, which should make the spin cycle more effective in wringing out most of the water.

I know you are trying not to use your dryer, but if you have one, there are two ways I know to make the clothes less hard without having to run the full dryer cycle. First, if you put the wet load in the dryer for about 5 minutes before hanging, the clothes should not be quite so hard when dry. Alternatively, you can put the dry, hard clothes in the dryer on "tumble" for a few minutes after taking them off the line. Since tumble doesn't use heat, you are using far less electricity. Plus, tumble drying them for just a few minutes will make a noticeable difference while using a negligible amount of electricity.

Kudos to you for being kinder to the environment!
Use a little less Detergent then usual, Soap build up will stiffen your clothes. Also Shake each piece out before hanging it.
I can suggest this, once you have washed your clothes on their normal hot wash, Put them on a cold wash, add the softener at the beginning of the cycle. this way your towel´s will come out soft. I tried this & it makes a big difference
add fabric softener
