95% rayon and 5% spandex?
Question:I have a dress made of 95% rayon and 5% spandex. The label says to dry clean only. But I was wondering if I can hand-wash it in cold water and lay it flat to dry?
Answers:
I have hand washed rayon before and when I did that, it lost it;s shape a bit and the fabric never got that really soft feeling back. You could go to one of those discount dry cleaners. Like a 1.99 or 2.50 one. It's worth it if you really like ther dress - you probably don't want to take a chance on ruining it.
I wouldn't take a chance... I would get the at home dry clean stuff, we use it all the time and works fine.
nope...dry clean
If the dress has NEVER been dry cleaned before you can wash it in cold water and hang it to dry. When dry put it on the air setting with a dryer sheet to kill the static. You can wash all your dry clean only stuff if not lined, that's what I've done for years with very good luck.
The only reasons I can think the manufacturer says to dry clean is that
1) it may have cheap dye in it
2) the structured inserts like shoulder padding might deform easily in water wash.
Otherwise rayon (a reconstituted cellulose made from wood pulp) and spandex (the fiber version of polyurethane) are perfectly acceptable candidates for hand washing.
It depends. If it's viscose rayon, hand washing could damage the fiber, as it weakens when wet. If you want to risk it, you should wash it in a net bag to reduce agitation damage.
Polynosic rayon is stronger (usually with the brand names like Modal or Zantrel) and can be hand washed.
Dry Clean only! Hand washing will ruin it.
you can wash it, however i would not suggest doing it often for water will weaken that material. I recommend spot cleaning, or you can even your an at home dry cleaning system like dryell
