How do you get the smell of dog urine out of your carpet?
Question:my dog had the accident the other night, during the night so it was mostly dry when i woke up in the morning. but i went ahead and soaked up the rest with a towel and i treated the spot with a "pet stain remover for carpets". but it still smells awful! any ideas how to get rid of the smell?
Answers:
The best stuff to use is called "simple solution". Those other "pet removers" don't work. You can buy simple solution in Petsmart or Petco. I think you can buy it premixed or concentrated (concentrated is better). Bring it home and literally soak the area, drench it in the solution. Let it sit there about 5 minutes or so and then take a rag or dirty towel and sop up as much of it as you can. The problem with pet urine is it soaks not only the carpet but into the padding and the floor too, so if you just spritz a little cleaner onto it that never gets all the smell.
Yikes!! I think the stuff is called "Urine Gone" or "Urine Off". You have to get a cleaner very specifically made for urine, because that is a very tough smell to get rid of for good out of your carpet. Look at a Petco or Pet Smart store, or online. This stuff is the only stuff that truly works! Good luck
white vinegar. cheap and easy.
white vinegar will nuetralize the odor & the stain as well --have used it many times as I had an old old dog who couldn't help herself
Urine Odors:
To remove offensive odors from furniture and rugs: make a solution of 3 parts Vinegar to 7 parts water, pour in a spray bottle and spritz the area. Allow to air dry, windows up and all if possible. Once the area is dry you should not have any remaining odors. If possible set a small fan up to blow onto the spot mattress, or turn on your ceiling fan, if you have one.
pile a bunch of baking soda in it let it set a while then vac it up or try this stuff called carpet fresh for pets.
Try Nature's Miracle. It's kind of pricey and you really have to saturate the area, but it's worth the high cost. It can also be used on any other organic odors (such as vomit) You have to soak the area, and let it dry naturally. It's the only thing I have found to take care of puppy (and toddler) accidents.
