NEW TOWELS, How do i soften them?
Question:I have bought a set of expensive bath towels. They look beautiful (big and fluffy) but when I use them after a shower they have no absorbency. They feel like i am toweling with a silk or satin sheet. I have washed them several times with fabric softener, but little improvement.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Answers:
Fabric softener will reduce absorbency.
They will suck up water like a sponge if you don't use fabric softener. They will not be quite as soft, but the difference is not that noticeable.
usually when i put things in the dryer they get warmer and softer,,,,,,,,,try it you never know
Wash them on delicate with hot water & fabric softner. Then put them in the dryer.
Use a meat tenderizer and pound them till they are soft. NO!
Have you tried drying them with a fabric softener as well?
Do not use fabric softener because it is made from waxes,
Towels are much more absorbent without it.
The fabric softener is your problem. It has a tendency to make towels less absorbent. It builds up every time you use it and actually makes the problem worse.
My idea would be to get the balls made to be put in the dryer with your clothes and make them soft without any fabric softener. You can get them at Bed, Bath and Beyond among other places.
fabric softener actually coats the product and makes it less absorbent (believe it or not), you will need to wash them w/o softener and dry completely in the dryer
1/2 cup of borax in the wash
1 cup of white vinegar in the rinse
Dryer Max Dryer Balls in the dryer
Wash with very little detergent and use some vinegar in the rinse cycle. Then throw a Bounce sheet in with them in the dryer...
Did you check that they are pure cotton?
Some towels are for show only and seem to lack absorbency because of the nature of the fibre.
Others have a sort of factory 'dressing' on them which needs to be well washed out.
Of all my towels I find American cotton is best, followed by Egyptian. Some Indian cottons are also very soft and absorbent but they don't wear so well.
