Help with a schedule to keep laundry caught up?
Question:Any ideas I stay behind
Answers:
Well I always put my machine on at night before going to bed, like this the clothes are ready to hang first thing in the morning, Then pop another load in straight away. Ironing once a week, whilst watching a film. unless it´s something very important, Fold sheet´s straight from the line, easier when it comes to iron them. Fitted sheet´s always fold in half first, then folding again away from me, seem´s to keep them straighter, so easier to iron. Also another thing I find which saves me time. is when I take the clothes from the machine , I always fold them before putting them in the basket, Sure you think this is a waste of time, as your going to hang them up. No. I find I hang them up quicker like this, as you don´t have to stop and untangle the clothes
Do a load every day.
you are asking the wrong girl here...i'll shop at Ross for something to wear sometimes rather than do the laundry...i would need more than a month to catch up!
how many people are you doing laundry for?
I do my laundry once a week on sundays with my bf - mind you that's mostly because I have to go to the laundromat. If I had my own at home I'd probably do it every 3-4days but again that's only for two people.
I have a family of five and I have to do a couple of loads every couple of days so we are not swamped with laundry...
I find that I really can do a load of laundry or two sometimes three every couple of days...
I do laundry at odd times, early, early, usually...that is the way to get it done the easiest, for me, anyway!
it takes me about two days to do all of mine and my husbands laundry. Try doing it on friday night and saturday day. But it really depends on how many loads you have that you need to do.
I keep two baskets, one for whites and the other for darks in the laundry room. When one is full, I run the washer when I leave for work and put the clothes in the dryer when I return. That way, my involvement is minimal.
There is no way doing the laundry for more than one person will ever be caught up by doing it once a week. It would be a real challenge because of the logistics involved.
You all do it every day. I dont want you women to get dull on your duties.
I usually wait till I get a fairly large pile of clothes and then do them all in ine day. It takes a while but I believe it's worth doing it that way, it saves time and help's with your water bill, instead of doing a bunch of little washes all the time.
I used to have all my laundry in varies stages of undone. A load in the washer - that I'd just rewashed for the 3rd time because I kept forgetting to put it in the dryer. Mainly because the colored clothes in the dryer needed to be ran for 10 minutes to knock the wrinkles out before I could hang them up...which of course I'd forget about and they'd get all wrinkly again. ;-) And if it made it out of the dryer? Into a basket, dumped on my bed, or the couch, only to be thrown back into the basket when it was time to go to bed...or I wanted to watch a movie.
So - I've been there.
This is what I did.
Every morning, after I get up - before I start getting dressed for work - I put a load of laundry in the washer. I set it for a normal cycle. I grab whatever I can - it's only one load. By the time I'm done getting dressed, drying my hair, getting breakfast, or getting my daughter ready to go - the laundry is done washing. I throw it IMMEDIATELY into the dryer. I set a timer for 40 minutes (unless it's something really light then I set it for less than that). When the timer goes off - I fold, hang and put away. Takes LESS than 10 minutes - and it's done.
I do this EVERY day. My laundry is away, my husband is happy, my daughter is happy - and I'm not eaten up by guilt whenever my daughter needs clean socks. ;-)
Good luck.
I second the Flylady.net recommendation. It's a great site for getting organized and caught up!
I took all the hampers out of each person's bedroom. Now, we have four hampers in the hall. Whites, Delicates, Darks, and Permanent Press. Everyone puts their dirty clothes in those hampers.
Do one load a day, choosing whichever basket is most full. Make sure you do the load completely, which means, washing+drying+folding/hanging... away. Write yourself a note so you don't forget you have wash in the washer getting sour-smelling.
I have wicker hamper in my bathroom that has 3 sections in it. I use one for whites, one for darks, and one for colors. When one section gets full I do that section. It really helps. I used to let laundry stack up for a couple weeks because I hated it. This makes it much more manageable, and you are only doing laundry when you have a full load. It also saves time because your laundry is already sorted so you don't have to go through it when you need to throw a load in. It helps keep my bedroom much cleaner as well becuase I have an easy and convenient place to put all my dirty clothes. Hope this helps! Goodluck!
