How often should you buy new pillows?
Question:
Answers:
depends, i would buy a new one every year or so and i wash it regularly, if you never wash it, after a year, one third of the weight of the pillow is dust mites and there droppings!!
use a low temp wash, otherwise the filling will crumple up and add some antiseptic disinfectant (dettol) to kill the germs and dust mites!
in about one to two years
I think it depends on the quality of the pillows that you purchase. Some cheap ones may only last a year or less--then they go flat and hard. I bought some memory foam ones in Bergner's--they were expensive. They were guaranteed for 5 years. It's been 2 years, and so far they are still great.
You shouldn't have to buy a new pillow until the old one is completely worn out. Pillows can be refreshed by simply washing them in extremely hot water with bleach and then drying them in the dryer to fluff them back to normal. The bleach and hot water kills any germs and bed bugs. You may want to get some allergan pillow case covers to protect them but other than that as long as the material isn't rotten the pillow is good to go.
When you wake up in the morning with headaches or neck aches, it is time for a new pillow.
Or when your pillow becomes flat and wont plump up in the dryer.
If your pillow is just uncomfortable. Or if it smells. Or has stains.
You don't need a time table. Anytime you are unhappy with you pillows, get some new ones.
I reckon when your old ones have lost there plumbness. Also after washing them if the stuffing clumps tog.
I reuse my old pillows as cushion inserts.
I think it depends on how often you no longer get good sleep using the one you have. If you spend a little more for a good one, you should have to replace it less often.
