How do I remove the stains that cottonwood needles make on clothing?

Question:Every spring the cottonwood trees in our area drop these sticky needles that adhere to the bottoms of feet and clothing. They create stains everywhere including carpet and my kid's clothes. I've tried soaking clothes in warm water with oxyclean and zout but I still can't remove the stains. Anyone have a better method they can share or know of something I'm not thinking of to remove these stains? Thanks!
