Pooh Bear needs a bath!?
Question:I have a large Pooh Bear that I've had for a long time and he's looking a little worn and beginning to have an odor, there are a few spots on him that could really use some attention. So I believe he needs a good through and through washing. I've only washed him once. He's entirely too large for a washing machine so I put him in the bathtub and did it all by hand, it was so extremly hard to get all the water and soap out of him so I was wondering if there was an easier way to do it? Or maybe I'm just grasping at straws and should just suck it up and do it the way I did before.
Answers:
DO NOT put poor Pooh in the washing machine. The batting inside his tummy and so on will clump up and he'll be all lumpy then.
Instead, spot clean him on the surface with either a detergent and water mixture, some Ivory liquid soap, or even some of those little Shout cleaning wipes.
To get rid of the smells, spray him lightly with some Febreze. It will lift the orders right out. With the Febreze, spot test first maybe underneath Pooh before spraying him completely. Finally, let him dry out in the sun. The sun is great for killing germs and bacteria that cause some smells.
Maybe you can try one of those huge machines at the laundry mat. Make sure he hasn't got any loose threads though or his stuffin will escape!
Laundromat for $2.00 in quarters.
I don't know how much effort you want to put into this, or how your sewing skills are, but here's how I've cleaned important, sentimentally valuable stuffed animals. (NOT COLLECTORS ITEMS)
I open a small seam; remove and discard the stuffing; wash the animal, either by hand or on gentle cycle of machine; dry thoroughly (no heat) then put in new stuffing and stitch the opening shut.
It's a time consuming process, but I've had excellent results that way.
If you DO decide to take him to the laundry mat, put him in a pillow case and tie the end up.
Good luck Poo
I wouldn't go to a laundry mat as the tumbling and agitation could really tear him up. I would take him to the cleaners they have treatments for things like the spots you mentioned. It probably won't cost much more than $10 -15. Well worth saving the memories.
The tub and a long soak would be the way to go.Then let him drain in the tub for a while. The fastest way to dry him would be with a fan on him over nite,to make sure he is dry...
I have a few stuff animals that over the years get different stains on them, but I didn't want to put it in the washer because the stuffing would move around and become clumpy. I have tried different things but the best thing I discovered was spraying Shout on the spots/stains. The spray is bettter than the wipes because it actually penitrates the surface and will take the smell out of the stuffing. Once it dries the stains have disappeared and there is a nice smell left. If he is really large then I would call around at a few dry cleaners to ask if they will do it. Good Luck!
I would clean him much the same way as you do carpet, use the attachment that clean carpets on stairs steps. and then spay him with Frebresse fabric spray.
