I used clorox to clean my carpet and now it smells moldy..just nasty....i know its completely clean but?
Question:how can i get rid of that nasty smell??.who would of though clorox can actually turn bad??any suggestions or tips?
Answers:
Get some Carpet Fresh and spray it good.
That really makes it smell nice.
You should try to rinse it with clean cold water. Then when it is dry, put alot of baking soda on it. Don't use any perfumed items until you get rid of this smell or it will get worse.
its not clean. you used too much. too much liquid makes mildew. soak it again, this time lightly, with another cleaner. dont drench it or it will happen again. dry it with a fan. use a carpet cleaner...dont just pour the stuff around.
What You Do Is Rent A Rug Dr. And Instead Of Using The Cleaner That Comes With It, Buy You Some Fabuloso, It Smells Great And Cleans Great. It Has Always Worked For Me. You Can Also Use It To Clean Other Stuff, Floors, Bathroom.
If you mean a mat, like a bath mat, wash it again in laundry soap and add 1/2 cup baking soda. Let it air dry. I did that with a white bath rug as well, after i bleached it smelled. Put it outside after you wash it. Should help. If you mean wall-to-wall carpeting, get it professionally steam cleaned. Clorox doesn't turn bad. It's the rubber backing on the mat, or jute, whichever you have.
It may not have "turned bad" but if it smells moldy, then you didn't get enough of the water out of the carpet. It's amazing that you were able to use Clorox so your carpet fibers have to be 100% polypropylene (olefin) fibers. Otherwise, you would have also bleached them out. Try using a wet vac, but only rinse with hot water and THOROUGHLY suck the water out, repeating the extraction, not rewetting your carpet. Open the doors, windows, turn on the fans and let the carpet get completely dry. If it's a bad enough problem then you may have to loosen the corners of your carpet and fold it back and resultingly have to have your carpet restretched. Baking soda sprinkled liberally on your carpet and allowed to stand several hours or overnight might help, but you may have caused more problems than you intended to correct. Hope not and I hope this helps with the situation.
I´m sure it´s because the underside of the carpet did´t dry properly, I Suggest you have the carpet steam cleaned. If you don´t , the mold will grow under the carpet & you will have to remove the whole lot
Have you tried using an enzyme cleaner? They get rid of smells, etc. They are usually sold as pet cleaner items. They sell gallons and spray bottles in pet stores and at Target. There are all kinds of different brands, just make sure it says enzyme cleaner somewhere on the bottle. We used it for our basement carpet after we had some minor flooding. It worked wonders for the smell when regular carpet cleaner didn't do the job.
