How can I prove to my roommate that leaving food out attracts bugs?

Question:My roommate has a bad habit of leaving food out or in the sink along with dirty dishes. And as for the dishes I think he might have some in his room too. But he insists that it doesn't attract bugs. I disagree, but he wants proof. Anyone know of a way I can prove it to him?

Answers:
OMG you live with a stubborn pig. Suggest he grow up and act responsibly...or find a new house to infest with ants and cockroaches.

For a DIY experiment, leave a cup of Coke sitting on the counter overnight and put several drops of red food coloring in it. The bugs will leave their trail all over your countertop in red Coke.

leave the dishes, food out... dont clean it up... he shall see!
Put a dirty dish full of bugs in his bed. Food attracts bugs. Why do you think it's so stereotypical to see cartoons of ants at picnics?
Get some bugs or ants from outside and put them on the dishes in his room. Keep it a secret from him. There that should prove it to him!!
This will be fun. Cut down a paper cup so it is only two inches high and fill it woth fake maple syrup (Log Cabin, etc...)

Place this little treasure under his bed and by the next day there will be hundreds of ants on it. Have fun!
the best thing to do is, let food stay out for a few days in his room, then he will surely see the results.
My personal favorite is to leave a bunch of very ripe bananas under said person's bed. Not only will it eventually smell horrible, but will also attract tons of those pesky little fruit flies. I think your disgusting roommate will get the picture then! It's very hard to get rid of them too and they are VERY annoying. (To make sure YOUR room is safe, I would google fruit fly traps...they have them at Gardener's Supply for about $13 bucks...in case you need them!)

As far as the dirty dishes he leaves, I would pick them all out of the sink, and place them under his bed as well. Same thing goes for the food. Let him have his proof the hard way LOL
Yah, kill the bugs, put them in a plastic bag, then show him. He doesn't attract bugs, his bad housekeeping habits do. You could always call the Terminix man or Orkin man, to come spray your home. It doesn't cost that much at all & he'll confirm what you already told your roommate about food attracting bugs.
Don't clean it up for him...the bugs will come, the bugs will come. Then he'll have his proof.
Be pseudo-scientific. Get some glue traps (like at http://animalmedicstore.stores.yahoo.net... ). Leave dishes unwashed and set out a trap or two. Count the bugs. Then wait a few days whth a clean sink and set out glue traps again, and again count the bugs. There should be far fewer.

But doesn't everybody knows that leftover food attracts vermin?
Wait for him to go out for a few hours, then leave a dish outside for ants/bugs and then put it in the kitchen...dont go overboard though, else he'll know your doing a windup.

If you get a few ants on it, thats perfect because then you can claim that these little "worker ants" have found the dishes and will go back to the main nest to attract more ants (this is when you end up with a line of marching ants back and forwarth!) - they can be very troublesom to remove.

I don't know where you live, but I'm assuming the northern hemisphere...with summer arrving, you'll want to keep the kitchen area clean. Bugs carry all sorts of diseases...a fly can land on animal (or human) facease (sp?) and then straight onto your dishes...if they are not washed properly you'll end up with E-coli, and spend several days on the toilet suffering.

From my own expereince, or living next dorr to filthy people, I've had to put up with rodents in my living space - its very unpleasant because they DO NOT nest where they eat. Rather they will eat in the kitchen, then find a nice warm dark cosy place to sleep - i.e. the closet. You may also start to find little droppings.

YUK!
