Answers:
NO. AN EXTENSION CORD WOULD CREATE A FIRE HAZARD. YOU HAVE TO MAKE ROOM OR RELOCATE THE PLUG
Gotta agree with the guys on this one. Never use an extension cord for a clothes dryer. There's twice the voltage going through there than the other outlets in your house; not something you want to take a chance with. I'd be very surprised if dryer extension cords even existed.
I've never seen a dryer outlet mounted in a place where a dryer won't fit, but it's certainly possible. If the space where your dryer should go is taken up with other stuff, either move things someplace else if you can, or call an electrician to place an outlet in a better spot.
You may have a fairly short cord on the unit. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and look at the cords for dryers. I believe they come in different lengths. You will have to wire it to the unit but it really isn't a big deal at all.
Just put the black wire where the old black wire was and do the same for the rest.
