Anyone have any ideas about how I can plan a weekly cleaning routine for my house without getting over whelmed


Question:I don't have junk, just dust and dirt.

I have a chart hanging in my pantry. Most people think I am crazy for that, but it keeps me organzied. I am a clean freak and this way I know I am not missing anything.
I have my daily stuff, mopping the floors and cleaning the counters. Then I designate a day for vaccuuming, dusting, cleaning the fridge, wiping down appliances ect.. I don't feel overwhelmed if I break that stuff up over the week. I just look at my list every morning and I know what needs to be tackled.


I have the same problem... I am a perfectionist...its bad!! but anyway... I have learned that if i set a little goal each day, and try to get it accomplished if I don't finish then I look at it as I did what I could and it's better than nothing! Like on Mon, I usually make sure there is enough clothes for the week, if there is then I will go to bathroom see what needs to be done. i clean one thing a night. Mon-Bathroom, Tues-Kitchen, Wed-living room, Thurs-bedroom, and clothes if need be, Fri-floors, Sat & Sun- tidy up! that works for me
Try separating your cleaning by doing a big room a day, or getting the family to join in for one big cleaning a week. vacuuming semi daily helps keep the dust down too.
Do what I do. Every day I clean or do something around the house in only one area. Schedule it.
Either go room for room, or make out a schedule. Some things such as sweeping, need to be done daily (especially if you have pets!) And regular 'straightening up'.
However, mopping, dusting etc can be done not so often. Dusting can be done every other day to once a week, depending on where you live, traffic in your home, and the weather. (I live in the country and our windows are always open in the summer, so dusting is a every other day chore with all the pollen and dust in the air, along with two dogs)
Look at your weekly schedule and tackle big jobs, such as cleaning bathrooms and any hard-core cleaning for days where you'll have plenty of time to rest afterward - both from the physical labor and the chemicals most cleaners are like.
Just pass yourself and you won't get overwhelmed, take it one thing at a time :)
Do Laundry on Wednesday and Sundays
Sweep and Dust on Monday
Vacuum and mop on Tues
Wednesday scourer the Bath room sinks etc
Do Dishes in the morning and after diner everyday
Change the sheets weekly
Wash windows every time change (2 x per year or when needed)
Organize mail daily
labeled recycle bins are are very helpful
Mow the lawn weekly in the early evening hours
Water the outdoor plants daily (evenings)
Shop Organic
Eat Healthy food fruit and vegetables in season
Take 45 minutes out of each day to meditate exercises walk and make sure you smell the roses.
Keep in mind that work will always be there but you may not if you do not take time of of your busy day to pamper YOU.

First of all, sit down and write down every task that needs to be done daily. This should include cooking, serving meals, washing dishes, picking up clutter in the home, making beds, laundry, etc. There are a number of tasks that do require to be done daily such as the ones listed in order to just keep the home running smoothly.

Go thru each room and bring that tablet and pen and write down the daily tasks. For instance, take the kitchen, where the most work daily will be done. The dishes will need to be washed, dried and put away daily, meals will be prepared and served, the counter tops should be cleaned after each meal. Get in the habit of washing dishes as you use them, or rinsing and putting them in the dishwasher.

Take each room, go through it and decide each chore that needs to be done, now divide these chores into daily and weekly on separate lists. This will take awhile and also there will be trial and error in getting a proper schedule adjusted.

For those weekly chores, you should plan to clean each room thoroughly. All laundry should be washed, dried, folded and put away, ironing should be done, meals should be planned, etc.

If you will try this plan, I do know from my own experience that your life will run much smoother, your home will be cleaner and your family will be happier as you will be also. Try it, this works
Stick with a routine that works for you. If you have kids/husband have them help you... I have a 1/3 yr. old boys and they know at night it's time to pick up toys before bed.They both help...

I keep my house tidy..I know that during the day the toys are you, so at night when my husband is home he takes the kids and gets them ready for bed.. I straighten the house...I unload/load the dishwasher, spray the counters/appliances, throw a load of laundry in the wash, wipe the kitchen down and sweep/mop.

So, in the morning all I need to do is wipe down the bathroom(disenfectant wipes) and once a week I mop the bathroom /scrub the tub/floor.

I get eveything off the floor. and I vacuum in the morning. I also dust about 2x a week and I vacuum my furniture. I have a big dog so that might vary for you. I do a load of laundry every night- Or it helps if you sort laundry once a week on Sun and do one every night... It just depends what works for you... I would make a list of everything you want to do in every room on a weekly basis... (regular cleaning and laminate it, so you can check it off and re-use it) Then make a deep cleaning list and do the same... There's a certain level of satisfaction when you get the list accomplished. Also, my husband can chip in and look at the list and see what's done and what's not...
