I always found it nice to offer incentives. We all have something extra we would like to have, kids respond real well to that. Good luck, I hope that helps.
I tell my kids if I find anything on the floor I'll give it to charity because I know for sure theres someone out there who'll appreciate those good stuff!

Well if they are old enough to read, then write them a letter, leave the letter in their rooms, They will ask why you are writing to them,& just tell them it´s the only way to communicate. I had the same problem ,every day, clean your room,pick up your thing´s ,put your thing´s away. Waste of time.So I wrote them both a letter, went out to the shop´s, when I came back. I almost fell over with shock. all dusted hoovered the lot. It seem´s they get used to our voises, so it´s really like an echo to them. write it down. You can try ,it might work for . It worked for
well kids like stuff the can play with or they like to go places, tell them to cleasn and you will give them things or money(if they or older than 10 or so)
threaten to throw away anything that is not in the proper place- works every time for me!
Make them stay in there until it is good and clean. Take the television and games out until it is. It may take them a little bit to get started, but once they get good and bored and realize you are serious, they will clean it really good.
