Dry cleaning a comforter... safe?
Question:I don't like the smell of dry cleaning chemicals but my comforter is dry-clean-only. I have had it dry cleaned in the past and the smell is overwhelming. I'm wondering if it's even safe to sleep under such a large comforter that has all those chemicals in it.
Answers:
I use to dry clean it to.I had the smell of all those chemicals they use,so on day I tried it in the washing machine, and the dryer. It came out smelling really nice, and when it was dry it was all puffy.Mine said dry clean only, and it has feathers in it.Take a risk, you won't be sorry.I wash everything now.
if the tag says dry clean only then it is safe.
I would use a washing machine that is large load, and when the water fills, let the comforter soak for an hour. Then let it agitate a little, then go directly to rinse and to spin. You can dry it over the kitchen chairs if you don't have a place outside. I have too many allergies for dry cleaning. Even when it says to dry clean I use the above method for clothes as well.
I tried a large washer at a laundry mat but it was too rough of a wash for the comforter that had satin designs on it.
Best of luck to you!!
