What could be wrong with my dryer?
Question:My dryer stopped working in the middle of drying a load of laundry. It was still hot when I opened the door. We tried everything to get it to work again but we cant figure it out! It is a Whirlpool, about 8-10 years old. Thanks for your help.

That happened to me, and it ended up being the themostat.
The belt may have broken.
did you check the breaker??
Check the circuit breaker?
Is the timer working, but it's not turning? That would be a belt.
I would bet that your drive belt is broken start your dryer for about a second and see if it is tumbling your clothes
Does the outlet, where the dryer is plugged in, have a 'Ground Fault Interruptor'; it's a circuit breaker right in the plug outlet. It should have 2 buttons, with one saying 'test' on it.
Have you checked the electrical plug, it might be the fuse that needs changing. A very long time ago, this happened to me ,but with the washing machine. I called the company & they sent someone straight away to look at it. I felt rather ashamed, when he told it was only this small problem. I was lucky that day,They did´t charge me for the call out
try checking the lint
There are 3 basic parts to a dryer; the electrical parts, the heater, and the mechanism that makes it spin. If it won't turn on at all, and it appears to not be external (you said you checked the breaker) than it must be a loose or burned out wire inside. Or you may just need a new power cord, that happened to me one time and my husband was able to install a new power cord he got at home depot. Good luck!
Did you check to make sure the vent was not clogged with lint. Also sometimes lint will get built up around the thermostat. Either will cause the dryer to stop in mid cycle.
